14 items, 8 kinds of artifacts Hansen’s disease patients used for treatment, in their daily life, etc. included a personal knife for self-treatment, button hooks, kitchen supplies like scoops, pots, and pot lifters, and cement block mold and Giwa mold used while doing forced labor. They are fraught with hardships and Han (Resentment) of Hansen’s disease patients and reflect isolated and desperate life of the patients, who had to endure forced labor and the lack of medical treatment and commodities. They also show how they mobilized their wisdom and creativity to find a way to survive. They are considered as significant historical materials that reflect the special social and cultural circumstance of patients suffering from Hansen’s disease, who survived thanks to their wisdom and determination in the times of transformation and extreme hardship. |
